FAQs

General information section

  • Are pest control chemicals safe?

Pesticides used by our team are registered with the relevant authorities and have been tested using the LD50 testing system. No products used by our technicians have been deemed dangerous to family or pets and no side effects have been reported.

Generally, there is no need to vacate family or pets, although in rare situations we will establish if there are matters for concern and will direct you on the best course of action to take.

The chemicals and baits we use are specially selected for their safe use in the home. Our technicians have in-depth knowledge of all our products and carefully assess the situations in which sprays and baits are used. Safety for health and environment is all part of our "Reduced-Risk Pesticide Program".

  • Is pest control safe during pregnancy?

Our pest control services pose no risk to pregnant women and their unborn children. Some people may react to the pesticide smell, but this is merely an unpleasantness and causes no health issues. Our technicians will advise you of proper aeration and will advise of any other things to consider. Often the risk of a pest infestation is more problematic than that of the products used.

  • Is Pest Control Safe For Pets?

The pest control products we use are as safe as can be, but we will still use extra precautions to ensure any pets are kept safe during our visit. Simply let our technician know if you have a pet with a sensitive respiratory system, especially fish or birds, then follow their instructions to keep your pets safe.

  • What should I do if I’m allergic or sensitive to pest control chemicals?

While it is unlikely that you would be affected by the products we use, we do ask that you tell us of any sensitivities or allergies so that we can tailor a solution for you. If you would feel more comfortable being out of the building during treatment, that is fine.

  • How long will the treatment take?

The treatment duration depends on various factors, many of them unpredictable, which is why we can only give you an estimated time frame. Upon initial inspection, we do our best to determine the time needed and inform you of the entire process.

  • How much will treatment cost?

Once you've had a full discussion about your pest control needs with our sales staff, prices can then be equated, and a formal quote provided to you. A description of the actions proposed by our team will also be conveyed to you.

  • Do I need to empty the cupboards?

Most times, no. Our salesperson will advise if your cupboards need to be emptied. The technician may instruct you to move some items for access or safety.

  • What chemicals are used?

Cairns Pest Control Services uses environmentally-friendly products registered for their intended purpose and declared safe around people and pets. Our "Reduced-Risk Pesticide Program" is founded on using only the pest control products that meet our standards of safety.

  • Can I purchase products to DIY my pest control?

We do not sell pest control products, and we don't recommend retail pest control products from your local hardware store. The use of pesticides that are not strictly monitored is a risk to you, your family, and the environment.

  • What can I do to help the pest control process?

The best way to assist the exterminator is to provide a clean and tidy environment for them to work in. All pest control procedures are longer lasting when premises are clean and accessible.

  • How long will the treatment last?

This depends on many factors but you can expect a range in time of up to 12 months . Some pests are control of one infestation and then no further problems exist.

  • How often is a treatment required?

The intervals between treatments varies on each pest species. The technician will advise on his initial treatment and inspection.

  • How to control Rats

Rodents are controlled by baiting. You can not perform this process yoursel as the poisons may find their way into the environment. Contact the professionals.

Termite inspections & treatments

  • How do I know if I have Termites?

Since termites aren't out in the open building owners generally become aware of them when it's too late and damage has been done. Repairing damage is expensive, whereas early detection is a minor expense. The best option is to arrange for an annual termite inspection by our accredited QBCC licensed technicians.

    • Hollow sounding timber

    • knawing sounds sometimes at night when house is quite.
  • Where do Termites come from.

Termites are a natural insect found through out Australia. Their purposes in the environment are many. They are only an issue to us because we build with products that are a food source for termites.

If we only built with products that termites do not eat then they would hardly ever be noticed by us.

  • How Long do Termites Live

This is not truly uderstood but the colony itself is known to survive for 50 years. Unless man or a freak action of nature destroys the colony.

  • Is a Termite a White Ant.

White ant is a common name given to Termite because they are pale grey to white in color and do resemble ants as they move about.
